In 1991, Dr. Lorie Miller Stevens, a native of Sylvester, Georgia, and a Gainesville, GA dentist, founded Quillian's Corner Dental Care. Dr. Stevens first trained as adental hygienist at Darton College in Albany, Georgia, and then graduated class of 1988 from the Medical College of Georgia School ofDentistry. She has accomplished prestigious achievements throughout her career and has served organized dentistry since 1990. She is in theone percent of dentists who achieved the distinction MAGD, Master inthe Academy of General Dentistry, one of the most respected designations in the profession. This accomplishment meets the highest criteria for professional excellence.
Dr. Stevens is a pioneer of computerized high-tech, soft-touch offices, having computerized practice management since 1991, digital radiography, which offers 90% less radiation than conventional x-rays, since 1996, and having completely electronic charts (more accurate than paper charts) for 10 years, already. Seven years ago, Dr. Stevens added a diagnostic laser to detect decay, which prevents the spread of decay-causing bacteria from one tooth to the next. Six years ago, she added a treatment laser that reduces healing time and lessens post-operative pain. Use of treatment laser therapy replaces the need for conventional gum surgery and improves healing up to 5 times faster.
Dr. Stevens has the distinction of having the first Center for Dental Medicine in Georgia. Her approach to dentistry has developed over the years and directly coincides with current research proving that disease of the mouth has a causative and additive affect on heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer, liver and kidney disease, as well as low birth-weight babies. Seven of ten people have some form of gum disease, which does not mean it is normal; it just means it is highly prevalent. Only with laser assisted periodontal therapy, can we prevent the periodontal pathogens' inoculation of the heart organs and vessels. By detecting and eliminating- not just slowing or moderating- the most prevalent disease in the world (gum disease), Dr. Stevens can help patients achieve overall health and avoid further illness by eradication of the underlying inflammatory disease of the mouth. Dr. Charles Mayo, founder of the Mayo Clinic, said almost 100 years ago that people who keep their teeth healthy can add 10 or more years to their lives. Today, more than ever, it is extremely important to know the health of your mouth, as your life span depends on the exact degree to which your mouth is healthy. Thus, Dr. Stevens is now saving lives, one smile at a time!
Dr. Stevens is a member in good standing of the American Orthodontic Society, the Academy of Laser Dentistry, the International Association of Oral Medicine and Toxicology, the Holistic Dental Association, the American and Georgia Dental Associations, and the American and Georgia Academy of General Dentistry. She has served on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Academy of General Dentistry since 2001.
